I am registered in LUCID and have a dual system contract – isn't that enough?

For Germany: almost – but since 12 Aug 2026 your registration may need an update (keywords: authorised representative, new legal basis VerpackDG), and existing system participation contracts remain valid until 31 Dec 2026 at the latest. For every other EU country: no. LUCID only works for Germany – France requires an IDU via SYDEREP, Austria requires Entpflichtung (discharge of obligations via an approved scheme) through a scheme there, and so on. 'I've got LUCID, that'll do' is this year's most expensive mistake.

What to do now, concretely

  1. Germany: review and update your LUCID entry (new mandatory details; transition deadlines in autumn 2026 – the exact dates have not yet been definitively confirmed officially).
  2. Review your system participation contract: old contracts end on 31 Dec 2026 at the latest – conclude a new one in good time or have it confirmed in writing.
  3. For every additional destination country: clarify its own registration and scheme obligations – the checker shows you this per country, with sources.

Background: since 12 Aug 2026 the EU Packaging Regulation has applied directly, and Germany has replaced the VerpackG with the VerpackDG. In the process, one rule has flipped completely – until 11 Aug an authorised representative was not permitted for the LUCID registration; since then it has been mandatory for foreign direct sellers. Anyone who set up their compliance once in 2022 and has not touched it since should now run one thorough check.
